Workshop on Intelligent Systems and Applications Imprimir E-mail

Scope
Intelligent Systems are those that incorporate aspects usually associated to intelligent human behaviour, such as perception, reasoning, learning, evolution, adaptation, autonomy, social interaction and pro-activity. Historically speaking, this is the main focus of interest in Artificial Intelligence. However, the dynamic contemporary world has turned such characteristics a requirement in virtually every system. As time evolves and given the fast technological development, intelligent systems are becoming even more feasible as they take part in our daily lives. Additionally, their great potential of application in different knowledge areas and sectors of the society turns its development even more multidisciplinary, with contributions from many different areas, not only engineering, computer science and informatics, but also from human and social sciences.

This workshop is aimed at building an adequate forum for the discussion of the many aspects related to the creation and development of intelligent systems, both from a theoretical perspective and from the practical exemplification of their potential applications. We intend to gather the scientific community, industry and society to discuss on the state-of-the-art of models and architectures, as well as paradigms and frontiers that motivate the advance of intelligent systems. Areas such as Artificial Intelligence, computing theories and models of the human cognition, knowledge representation and engineering, information infrastructure and distributed intelligent systems on the Web are some of the areas to be explored and deepen in this workshop.

Topics of Interest
The topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to the following areas:
• Artificial Intelligence
• Agent technology and multi-agent systems
• Cognitive and adaptive robotics
• Knowledge-based systems
• Machine learning
• Electronic Commerce
• Semantic Web and Ontologies
• Information retrieving
• Data mining and OLAP
• Human-machine Interactions
• Ubiquitous computing and mobile systems
• Service oriented architectures
• Expert and decision support systems
• Data and knowledge engineering
• Intelligent entertainment systems
• Evolutionary computing and other bio-inspired models

Paper Submission and Formatting Guidelines
We invite prospective authors to submit contributions, not yet published, reporting on either work under development or concluded projects about theoretical aspects or practical applications of the workshop topics. Paper preparation must follow the formatting guidelines of the conference(DOT, PDF), and should be written either in Portuguese, in Spanish, or in English. Contributions should be submitted, in PDF format, through the EasyChair platform, and should exclude authors’ names and affiliations during the reviewing phase.

Publication
Papers may be accepted as full workshop papers (6 pages) or short papers (4 pages). Papers selected for presentation during the workshop sessions will be included in the Conference Proceedings, subject to the condition that at least one co-author will register for the conference and ensure the oral presentation of the work.

Important Dates
• Paper submission: February 26 March 15, 2010
• Paper acceptance/rejection notification: March 29, 2010
• Camera-ready version due: April 16, 2010
• Conference: June 16-19, 2010
